Only just in the cinema, now already on Disney+: An adventure film that has us

Unfortunately, “Strange World” didn’t find a big audience in the cinema. One month after its release, the Disney adventure is now getting a second chance on Disney Plus. We can definitely recommend streaming it to you.

The new Disney animated adventure “Strange World” was first released in cinemas on 24 November 2022 – but has only managed to bring in around 62 million dollars worldwide to date (with an estimated production budget of between 140 and 180 million dollars). Whether this flop was the decisive factor in the film getting a very early streaming start, we can’t say for sure, but the fact is:

“Strange World” can be accessed at no extra cost on Disney+ starting today, December 23, 2022. And since the very classic Disney family film with its sincere message fits perfectly into the Christmas season anyway, this is also the perfect opportunity to catch up with it – even though we would still recommend a visit to the cinema for its visual splendour (while it is still playing in selected cinemas).

THIS IS “STRANGE WORLD “

Thanks to the discovery of an electricity-producing plant, the isolated land of Avalonia has been growing and thriving for 25 years now. But when one day the plants are attacked by a mysterious plague, the family of the adventurer and plant discoverer Searcher Clade (voice in the original: Jake Gyllenhaal / German version: Marius Clarén) is tasked with searching deep inside the earth for the cause – where they finally find a wondrous world populated by a wide variety of creatures…

While “Strange World” tells a heartfelt but rather schematic generational story, the Disney adventure impresses above all with its sheer visual splendour. Don Hall, who won an Oscar for “Baymax”, and his co-director Qui Nguyen, who was also responsible for the screenplay, create one – or rather two – breathtaking worlds (namely Avalonia and the Earth’s interior), as they did in “Raya and the Last Dragon”. There is so much to discover that multiple viewings are recommended – which is no longer a problem thanks to the availability on Disney+.
