Plot and background
When the moon disappears from the sky one night, there is great excitement in the forest. Badger, frog, duck and ladybird stumble around in total darkness until they discover a bright light in the Moon Bear’s house. There the moon sits with his host and plays checkers with him in harmony. Shortly afterwards he falls asleep and the animals are at a loss. How can they wake up the moon and bring it back to the sky? Only the sunbird knows.

The animals of the forest are in a frenzy: The moon has disappeared. The moon is sitting comfortably in Moon Bear’s little house and playing checkers. But in order to shine for the animals, it has to go back to the firmament. In the meantime, however, it has also fallen asleep and can only be woken up by the song of the sunbird. But the sunbird is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, the rabbit’s entire supply of carrots is stolen by unknown persons.
