“Ginny & Georgia” on Netflix: Is season 3 coming and how could it?

by Dennis

The second season of the series “Ginny & Georgia” took the Netflix charts by storm and the last episode ends with a bang. Naturally, this raises the question of what happens next. And more importantly: Will it continue at all?

It is no longer a matter of course that successful Netflix series are automatically continued with another season. Most recently, viewers of the German mystery series “1899” got a painful impression of how quickly everything can be over – despite a huge cliffhanger! While in the last few years you could be relatively sure that the story would be told again, things are very different now. The streaming giant Netflix is cancelling series, even if they were (relatively) successful and popular with fans and the trade press.

“Ginny & Georgia” currently dominates the Netflix charts. In the category of international English-language series, we find the first season (which started back in 2021) at number 5 and the new second season in pole position. Looks like the whole world is in “Ginny and Georgia” fever. Unfortunately, this is still no guarantee for a third season – and even the makers of the series know that…

THAT’S WHY SEASON 3 OF “GINNY & GEORGIA” IS ANYTHING BUT SURE

“Ginny & Georgia” tells the story of 30-year-old Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) and her 15-year-old daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) who come to a new town to start all over again. What at first glance looks a bit like the legendary “Gilmore Girls” quickly turns out to be a series that combines quite a few genres. Crime elements, for example, are an essential part of “Ginny & Georgia”.

Strictly from a legal point of view, Georgia has definitely not done everything right in her life, and so season 2 ends with a rather big surprise that really ought to be cleared up in a third season. “Ginny & Georgia” creator Sarah Lampert sees it the same way and already has some ideas for a sequel, as she tells Deadline in an interview. But even she doesn’t know if it will continue.

“No, there have been no talks with Netflix about season 3. They are very strict about what they do,” Lampert says, alluding to the fact that the streaming service is currently carefully considering which projects to pursue and which not. She is also sure that the open ending of season 2 is no guarantee for a continuation. However, Lampert and her team have plans and strategies that they will present to Netflix and then it’s “wait and see. “

SO SEASON 3 OF “GINNY & GEORGIA” COULD LOOK like this

“I really hope we can do season 3 because it would be a wild ride,” Lampert explains. She is sure that the end of the second season leaves a lot of room for the story to continue. She is of course alluding to Georgia’s arrest and the question of whether the young mother really has to go under lock and key. The series would then definitely be very different from what it has been so far – Lampert is already sure of that.

What would become of Ginny and her brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca) if their mother went to prison? According to Lampert, the question of custody of the children would be particularly interesting – and there are theoretically a few possibilities. And of course it could (and should) also be about how the two children come to terms with the fact that both parents are convicted felons.

None of this sounds like a feel-good series any more. But who knows, maybe “Ginny & Georgia” will then become interesting for even more people. Netflix should be happy about that in any case and maybe a third season will then become more likely
