What do Marvel’s “Daredevil” and “Maya the Bee 3 – The Secret Kingdom” have in common? Both can be streamed on Disney+, the mouse house’s streaming service, starting today at no extra cost.
Disney is continuing to round out its streaming offerings on its in-house streaming service Disney+ with the very Marvel films that predate the MCU era. After the “Fantastic Four” and the “X-Men” films as well as Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, “Daredevil” with Ben Affleck as the blind lawman can now also be found in the Disney+ offering.
So those who are in the process of catching up on the complete Marvel cosmos on Disney+ now have one more film to choose from. Otherwise, however, the comic adaptation has only a mediocre reputation among Marvel fans, especially the casting of Ben Affleck was considered by many to be miscast at the time of the film’s release. Recent Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell, on the other hand, is a lot of fun in the role of the accurate villain Bullseye.
THIS IS “DAREDEVIL” WITH BEN AFFLECK
In “Daredevil” Ben Affleck plays Matt Murdock, who went blind as a child because he came into contact with radioactive waste. In return, his other senses strengthened – and have since allowed the young Matt to perform almost superhuman deeds.
Since then, he has been using his newfound abilities for justice – by day as a lawyer, where he and his partner Franklin Nelson (John Favreau) put crooks behind bars, and by night as the superhero Daredevil, where he takes on those thugs who cannot be dealt with by the law. However, when the millionaire’s daughter Elektra Nachios (Jennifer Garner) enters his life, the superhero’s life is turned upside down…
By the way, those who are angry about the casting of Ben Affleck as the protector of Hells Kitchen should realise that Vin Diesel was originally intended for the role of the blind avenger in the red latex suit – would that have been a better fit? Probably not. Besides, Ben Affleck has proven that he has what it takes to be a superhero with his Batman in the later films of the DCEU.
“MAYA THE BEE 3”
Those who don’t want to be entertained by pre-MCU superhero films – the former Netflix series with Charlie Cox, which now continues on Disney+, is after all considerably more charming – and are looking for a suitable film programme for the younger generation might be happy with “Maya the Bee 3 – The Secret Kingdom”. The third spin-off of the popular children’s film series is no film gold, but it doesn’t hurt anyone either and should keep at least the youngest viewers happy.
