Plot and background
Detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il) has already solved some tricky cases, his latest case takes him to a mountain top. The death of a man is to be investigated further. The main suspect is the victim’s widow, Seo-rae (Wei Tang), who the young detective can’t get out of his head as the investigation goes on.

South Korean director Park Chan-wook made his return to the Cannes Film Festival 2022 with his latest strike. He competed for the Palme d’Or for the fourth time, so far winning the Grand Jury Prize for “Oldboy” (2003) and the Jury Prize for “Thirst” (2009). And Park Chan-wook did not go away empty-handed at this year’s Cannes Film Festival either. “The Woman in the Mist” celebrated its world premiere at the festival and was awarded the prize for Best Director. In addition to being nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, the film is also currently on the shortlist (shortlist of 15 films) for Best International Film at the 2023 Academy Awards. With ten nominations, the film is also the big favourite at this year’s Asian Film Awards.
For his twelfth film, Park Chan-wook again co-wrote the screenplay with Jeong Seo-kyeong, as he did for “The Pickpocket” and other films. The leading roles are taken by Park Hae-il (“The Host”) and Wei Tang (“Blackhat”).
The German theatrical release date for “The Woman in the Mist” is 2 February 2022.
