“We Have A Ghost” is not the typical haunted house horror film you might expect after the first few seconds of the trailer. Instead, “Freaky” director Christopher Landon mixes in plenty of humour as usual with the classic ingredients:
“We Have A Ghost” starts with the classic premise of almost every haunted house horror film: a family moves into a new home to make a fresh start – but the kids soon discover that something is amiss: the house is haunted! But the Netflix film by director Christopher Landon is not a real horror film with numerous shock moments and jump scares…
As we already know from Christopher Landon’s previous films “Happy Deathday”, “Happy Deathday 2U” or “Freaky”, “We Have A Ghost”, according to the trailer, very quickly takes a turn into comedic territory. For example, the younger son of the family, Kevin (Jahi Winston), is not a bit scared when he meets ghost Ernest (David Harbour), but wants to find out the cause of his death together with his new girlfriend Joy (Isabella Russo).
SPIRIT ENCOUNTERS IN TIKTOK AGE
And when cellphone videos of the ghost encounters go through the roof on the Internet, Kevin’s family – which otherwise includes father Frank (Anthony Mackie), mother Melanie (Erica Ash) and older brother Fulton (Niles Fitch) – finds itself besieged overnight by scores of reporters, journalists, creepy fans and ghost enthusiasts.
The family becomes a media sensation, however, attracting the attention not only of fortune teller Judy Romano (Jennifer Coolidge), but also of Dr. Leslie Monroe (Tig Notaro) of the CIA. The secret service doesn’t seem to want anyone to find out why and under what circumstances the equally voiceless and friendly Ernest has died…
“We Have A Ghost” will be released on Netflix on 24 February 2023.
That’s when two Marvel stars who haven’t yet had the honour in the MCU (but probably will soon) come together: Anthony Mackie plays Sam Wilson aka Falcon, who became the new Captain America through “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, David Harbour, on the other hand, was seen in “Black Widow” as the “Russian Captain America”. His Red Guardian will appear again in the upcoming MCU film “Thunderbolts”, which should be closely linked to Anthony Mackie’s “Captain America 4: New World Order”.
“Captain America: New World Order” opens in German cinemas on 1 May 2024, “Thunderbolts” then a short time later on 24 July 2024.
