Small inconsistencies and contradictions are not uncommon in the MCU, but they are also always corrected where this is simply possible. This is what happened with “Ms. Marvel”: The MCU series now follows on even more seamlessly from “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

30 films, (at least) eight series, two holiday specials, plus numerous short films, comics and much more: the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a massive construct spanning various media. With so many different pieces of the puzzle and different people in charge, inconsistencies and contradictions can sometimes occur – which are, of course, all the more noticeable because MCU fans pay as much attention to the integrity of the timeline as TVA does to “Loki”.

To eliminate at least a few mistakes and make the transitions between the films and series as seamless as possible, Disney and Marvel sometimes even make changes afterwards. For example, in 2021 with “WandaVision” before the release of “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” – and now also with “Ms. Marvel” so that the MCU series fits better with “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

WHAT COLOUR IS THE STATUE OF LIBERTY IN THE MCU?

Whoever has seen “No Way Home” will remember that the big showdown of the film takes place at the Statue of Liberty in New York. Unlike in our world, however, Lady Liberty in the Avengers universe is (again) copper-coloured, just as she was right after she was built at the end of the 19th century. It was only through oxidation over the course of the year that the Statue of Liberty acquired the bluish-green colour it has today.

In the MCU, however, the patina that had developed was removed after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” and the death or disappearance of Captain America (Chris Evans) – and instead of a torch, the statue, now called the Liberty Avenger, was then to hold up Captain America’s iconic shield, as seen in “No Way Home”.

But now back to “Ms. Marvel”: The MCU series is set after “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and should therefore also feature the shiny copper Statue of Liberty. However, when the series was released in the summer of 2022, this was not the case.

However, as the Twitter fan account @MsMarvelUK pointed out, this little continuity error has since been fixed. The Statue of Liberty also appears in a new colour in the opening credits of the series as well as in a short shot at the beginning of the sixth episode.

The Captain America shield was damaged during the fight at the Statue of Liberty in “No Way Home” and crashed to the ground, so it is probably missing in “Ms. Marvel” as well.

By the way, the next reunion with Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) will take place this year: She is part of the main character trio in “Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels”, which will be released in German cinemas on 26 July 2023.
