ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive Empire of Light clip from the digital release of Sam Mendes’ romantic drama. The film is now available digitally and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 21.
“Set in and around a faded old cinema in an English coastal town in the early 1980s, it follows Hilary (Olivia Colman), a cinema manager struggling with her mental health, and Stephen (Micheal Ward), a new employee who longs to escape this provincial town in which he faces daily adversity,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Both Hilary and Stephen find a sense of belonging through their unlikely and tender relationship and come to experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community.”

Empire of Light was written and directed by Sam Mendes. It stars Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Colin Firth, and Toby Jones. It was produced by Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes and executive produced by Michael Lerman and Julie Pastor.
