“Return to Seoul” – background, cast, cinema release
French-Cambodian director Davy Chou dedicates “Return to Seoul”, after his film “Diamond Island”, once again to a portrait of a young person in the midst of a foreign metropolis. The filmmaker deals with the topic of adoption and the search for identity with great sensitivity. The director was inspired in 2011 when an adopted friend with a similar story took Chou to an emotional meeting with her biological father.
The leading actress Freddie is played by newcomer Park Ji-Min, while Korean actor Oh Kwang-rok, known from films such as “Oldboy” and “A Bittersweet Life”, plays her biological father, who is plagued by feelings of guilt. Kim Sun-young (“Three Sisters”), Louis-Do de Lencquesaing (“The Holy Family”), Yoann Zimmer (“As Happy As Possible”), Ouk-Sook Hur and Guka Han also star in the film.
The drama opens in cinemas here on 26 January 2023.
