New on Netflix: The star-studded finale of a cult trilogy is now available

From today you can stream “Clerks III”, the conclusion of Kevin Smith’s legendary trilogy, on Netflix. Featuring a whole lot of meta and even more stars, the return to where it all began…

After “Clerks III” was only quietly and secretly released as a rental or purchase VoD and neither Blu-ray nor DVD is available in Germany yet, you can finally watch Kevin Smith’s latest film in a streaming subscription as of today – on Netflix.

As we all know, it all started with “Clerks” in the nineties. The comedy, which was supposedly financed entirely out of his own pocket for only 27,000 US dollars, became a cult hit after its theatrical release in 1994, and Kevin Smith became a hot director who followed it up with films like “Chasing Amy” and “Dogma”. After a sequel followed in 2006 with “Clerks 2”, he followed it up in 2022 with “Clerks III”, which goes back to the original with a meta-plot.

IN “CLERKS III”, “CLERKS” IS CREATED – SOMEHOW

Once again, we return to the Quick-Stop general shop, now owned, yes, by Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson), which makes it even easier for the two slackers to just hang out instead of work. Since Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) have taken over the former video store next door and are now legally peddling marijuana from there, they too continue to be there all the time.

But when Randal suffers a serious heart attack, he questions the lottery life he has led so far. He is convinced he has wasted his time and wants to create something lasting. So he decides to make a film about his and Dante’s life and the Quick Stop. Since Dante was told in the hospital to keep his friend happy, he gets involved and, as a producer, is first busy raising almost $30,000 for the budget….

So the two make a film that looks suspiciously like “Clerks”, but also offers some deviations (and many “Star Wars” quotes). And of course Kevin Smith uses this film, which is also a kind of recollection of his entire career, to get many old acquaintances in front of the camera:

In supporting roles are such companions as Ben Affleck, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson and his daughter Harley Quinn Smith. A real cameo show, however, sets in when Randal sets about casting the roles for his film. Of course, we don’t want to reveal the stars who are casting their parts. You can watch it for yourself now on Netflix.
