Scream 6: Sixth release of the horror series about the Ghostface killer
Plot and background
2022 the horror series “Scream”, which was believed to be dead, celebrated its continued existence and sticks to the series in the now sixth part. After creator and director Wes Craven passed away in 2015, the slasher series remained quiet for a long time.
The late fifth installment followed in 2022, simply titled “Scream”, and brought the familiar stars around Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox back to the sleepy town of Woodsboro. At the same time, a number of young stars were introduced around Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who are also in the game in the sixth part.
“Scream 6” – Storyline
The survivors of the latest series of murders in Woodsboro must once again fear for their lives in the 6th part of the film series before a masked man in a Ghostface costume. The guesswork begins: Who can be trusted? And who is behind the masquerade?
The official trailer promises nerve-wracking, bloody scenes and high tension as the Ghostface killer once again wreaks havoc in Woodsboro:
“Scream 6” – Cast, release, background
First the bang: Neve Campbell has turned her back on the “Scream” series. Since she couldn’t agree on an appropriate salary with the studio bosses, she stays away in the sixth spin-off. Instead, there is a reunion with Courteney Cox (“Friends”), who is the only original star to be back. Hayden Panettiere, who starred in the last Craven film “Scream 4”, also returns.
After their tryst in Part 5, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding return as the Meeks-Martin twins, as well as Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the Carpenter sisters. “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega has established herself as a shooting star in the horror genre in recent years. In addition to “Scream”, the 20-year-old actress was also in front of the camera for the slasher film “X” in 2022 and played the role of Wednesday Adams, with which she contributed significantly to the spectacular success of the horror-comedy series on Netflix. New to the line-up for “Scream 6” are stars like Tony Revolori (“Spider-Man” series), Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”), Dermot Mulroney (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”) and Josh Segarra (“Arrow”).
Continuity is also the order of the day in the director’s chair: Directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett continue the story, while Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt once again contribute the screenplay after Part 5. Kevin Williamson, who after all wrote the screenplay for the first “Scream” film back in the day and subsequently enjoyed just as much success with “Dawson’s Creek”, is also endeavouring as executive producer to capture the charm of the old film series.
Screams can be heard again as early as 2023: the as yet untitled “Scream 6” opens in German cinemas on 9 March 2023.
