With Adam Brody (Freddy), Grace Fulton (Mary), Ross Butler (Eugene), DJ Cotrona (Pedro) and Meagan Good (Darla), these alter egos are also in the sequel.
Nothing changes behind the camera: director David F. Sandberg, as well as screenwriter Henry Gayden return to their posts for the sequel. The title of the film was revealed at the DC Fandome in August 2020: “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” It wasn’t until March 2021 that a goddess was cast: Hespera, daughter of Atlas, will be portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren (“The Queen”). The character Hespera has already been announced as a villain, but has no explicit counterpart to the DC Comics. Mirren is also joined by Lucy Liu (“Elementary”) as Calypso. Newcomer Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”) will also turn the kids’ heads.
Is there a meeting between “Black Adam” and “Shazam”?
Already for “Shazam!” (2017) there were rumours that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be seen as Black Adam. Nothing came of it yet, but this wishful thinking could come true in the second part at the latest. Before that, the audience has the chance to learn more about the anti-hero in the solo film “Black Adam”.
Introduced as an antagonist, Black Adam was the first chosen human to receive his superpowers from the wizard SHAZAM. However, before Black Adam redeemed his reputation in more recent DC comics and became a hero, Dwayne Johnson had a fighting words for Shazam: “Things will never be the same again. The hierarchy and power in the DC Universe will fundamentally change. “
