Plot and background
Documentary filmmaker Zoe (Lily James) has been through several failed love affairs and even more dates, can at least feast on the equally numerous anecdotes. While her mother (Emma Thompson) has become extremely frustrated with her single status, she accompanies her childhood friend Kazim (Shazad Latif) to Pakistan. His parents have arranged a marriage for him and Zoe captures the first meeting between the future spouses on camera. In the process, Zoe also asks herself what other paths there might be to love.
“What’s Love Got To Do With It” – cast, background, theatrical release
A delightful British romantic comedy explores the question of how to find a partner for life these days. In the lead role, Lily James (“Cinderella”) sets off on a search for Mr. Right, alongside her are stars such as Emma Thompson (“Late Night”), Shazad Latif (“Penny Dreadful”), Taj Atwal (“Truth Seekers”) and Asim Chaudhry (“The Sandman”).
Shekhar Kapur (“Elizabeth”) directs the story from a script by Jemima Khan (“American Crime Story”). The team of producers has brought some heartbreak and good humour to cinema halls in recent years with films such as “All a Matter of Time”, “Yesterday”, “Emma” and the “Bridget Jones” series. “What’s Love Got to Do with It” should be in no way inferior to these films. In addition, the audience can look forward to songs by Naughty Boy and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
The British rom-com “What’s Love Got To Do With It” will celebrate its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival 2022 in September. German audiences will have to wait a little longer for the film’s release. Here, “What’s Love Got To With It” will be released in cinemas in time for Valentine’s Day on 9 February 2023.
