“Ant-Man 3” on Disney+: So soon you will be able to see the new

Currently, the MCU adventure “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” is still running in some theaters. But it’s already clear when the film will make its way to Disney Plus. It’s less than three weeks away.

When it hit theaters in mid-February 2023, “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” still got off to a pretty promising start. With worldwide box office takings of just under 475 million dollars, the Marvel spectacle ultimately fell short not only of its two predecessors, but also of expectations. While we at FILMSTARTS certainly had fun with the 31st MCU film, the rather negative reviews in many places probably contributed to the fact that even many Marvel fans have saved themselves the visit to the cinema.

However, there will soon be the next opportunity to catch up on the sci-fi adventure at home. After it has been available for purchase and rental as VoD on streaming providers such as Amazon Prime Video for a good week, it is now also certain: “Ant-Man 3” will be released on Disney+ on May 17, 2023 – where it can be streamed by all subscribers at no extra charge just three months after the movie’s release.

This also again preempts the regular home theatrical release on DVD and Blu-ray, which will occur on June 8, not to mention that the film will once again be available on Disney+ – unlike on physical media – in the IMAX version with an extended frame. The date has so far only been revealed by US sites, but as with the previous MCU entries, the film is likely to find its way to German Disney+ at the same time.

STRONG VILLAIN – NOW WITH A BLAND AFTERTASTE

In “Quantumania”, “Ant-Man” Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), his girlfriend Hope “The Wasp” van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and their parents Hank (Michael Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) are transported to the Quantum Plane, where in their desperate search for a way back they tangle with the powerful dimension-traveling Kang (Jonathan Majors), who is up to no good…

It is precisely this Kang who is now set to be built up in the MCU as the new chief villain after Thanos, who will once again have to be defeated in a major “Avengers” double (“Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty” in 2025 and “Avengers 6: Secret Wars” in 2026). And even many of those who didn’t like “Ant-Man 3” could at least agree that shooting star Jonathan Majors (“Creed III,” “Lovecraft Country”) makes a lasting impression in it as Kang.

However, exactly this plus point unfortunately has a bad aftertaste, as Majors is currently confronted with serious accusations of violence, which have already cost him several film roles. What consequences this will have for his further participation in the MCU, however, will probably only be known after the court hearing on May 8, 2023 at the earliest.
