Roter Himmel: German drama about a young group of friends* whose emotions boil up on a Baltic Sea vacation while the dry forest around them catches fire.
Plot and background
Four young people spend a summer in a remote place on the Baltic Sea. The weather is hot and dry, there has been no rain for weeks. In a vacation home between the forest and the sea, teenage friends Leon (Thomas Schubert) and Felix (Langston Uibel) meet Nadja (Paula Beer), who works as a seasonal employee in the coastal village, and Devid (Enno Trebs), the lifeguard. While Leon seeks peace and quiet in the heavy, hot summer days to work on his second novel, the others want to enjoy the lightness of the days off. But the dry summer is not without consequences and the parched forests in the coastal region catch fire. Sparks also fly between people. Happiness, love and longing, but also jealousy, sensitivities and tensions flare up in the friends like the flames in the forest around them.
The official trailer gives a first insight into the dense drama full of emotional chaos:
With the drama “Red Sky”, award-winning German filmmaker Christian Petzold (“Undine”) tells the story of four young people who, accompanied by an underlying danger, try to spend a carefree summer, after which nothing will ever be the same again.
