In “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania,” many of the funny supporting characters that distinguished the first two films in the series are missing. But at least Kurt actor David Dastmalchian is there – albeit in a different role than usual.
“Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” is in many ways a departure from the previous two “Ant-Man” films: Instead of small Heist family stories in superhero garb is here suddenly brightly colored blockbuster spectacle in the quantum level on the program. In addition, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) are the four main characters of the series and Ant-Man’s now adult daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton).
However, there is no trace of the trio of supporting characters Luis (Michael Peña), Kurt (David Dastmalchian) and Dave (Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris), who have grown fond of the series over the course of two films. Especially Michael Peña and the great Luis montages from “Ant-Man” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp” might have been missed by many fans of the first two parts. But David Dastmalchian’s Kurt also had a few laughs on his side with his Baba Yaga running gag. So it’s a pity that there seems to be no trace of any of the three – isn’t it?
Not quite, because at least one of the three actors is actually in “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” – albeit in a different role: David Dastmalchian. To recognize the Kurt actor, however, you’ll have to listen very closely and watch the original version to boot, because he plays the gooey, jellyfish-like creature Veb, who develops quite a fascination with Scott Lang’s orifices in “Quantumania”:
In the interview for “Ant-Man 3,” director Peyton Reed also told us why, while Dastmalchian is back, Michael Peña is not (in the case of Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, it’s pretty clear, as the rapper and actor and his wife are facing numerous sexual abuse allegations). Peyton Reed explained:
“We felt like Luis and company’s story was closed. But David Dastmalchian is sort of my good luck charm, I can’t do an ‘Ant-Man’ movie without David. So I really wanted to bring David back as another character, and that’s how we ended up with Veb.”
