Plot and background
Michael Ausiello (Jim Parsons) and Kit Cowan (Ben Aldridge) meet in a New York nightclub. It is love at first sight and the two go through thick and thin as a happy couple for over 13 years. But when Kit falls seriously ill and receives the devastating diagnosis that he only has a short time to live, everything suddenly changes for the couple. The tragicomedy tells the story of Michael and Kit’s difficult last months together, but is above all an affectionate look back at 13 years full of love, support, warmth and sincerity – from getting to know each other to their first date and Kit’s serious illness.

With “Spoiler Alarm”, director Michael Showalter (“The Big Sick”) tells the heartwarming, refreshing and life-affirming love story of Michael and Kit. This is based on true events, as the drama tells the story of the bestseller of the same name “Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies” by Michael Ausiello. The journalist came to terms with the death of his husband from cancer in his 2017 memoir.
With great empathy, the main actors Jim Parsons, known as Sheldon from “The Big Bang Theory” and Ben Aldridge (“Knock at the Cabin”) bring to the screen the sorrow and joy of 13 fulfilling yet abruptly ending years that Michael and Kit shared. In addition to Parsons and Aldridge, two-time Oscar winner Sally Field (“Norma Rae – Eine Frau steht ihren Mann”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel’s Wedding”) and Nikki M. James (“Severance”), among others, were in front of the camera in other roles.
