Tina: Documentary about the eventful life of music icon Tina Turner.
Plot and background
Her voice is unmistakable, her songs long iconic. Tina Turner looks back on her once-in-a-lifetime career that began in the 1950s in the new documentary “Tina”, revealing the turbulent ups and downs of her life in previously unreleased interviews and private glimpses.
With songs like “GoldenEye”, “The Best” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)”, she realised the childhood dream as the first black “Queen of Rock’n’Roll”, who could single-handedly fill stadiums at lightning speed and incidentally set a world record for the largest paying audience for a solo artist in 1988. As dazzling as her success was, its darker side was darker.
Ike Turner, who also gave her her stage name Tina Turner and was her husband from 1962 to 1978, beat her behind closed doors. Only with difficulty did she leave behind the stigma as a survivor of abuse, speak publicly about her experiences and give a voice to many women of her time.
It was through the darkest episodes of her life that she drew the strength and energy for the iconic albums and songs of the 1980s and 1990s that everyone knows and loves today. Tina Turner is rightly considered a living music legend.
In the trailer with German subtitles, “Tina” Turner talks about her eventful life:
