The first trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Nun II brings the demonic Valak back to the Conjuring Universe.
Releasing in Sept. 2023, The Nun II marks the next chapter in Warner Bros.’ Conjuring Universe and serves as a sequel to 2018’s The Nun. The film is directed by Michael Chaves, who also directed 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona and 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

“1956 – France. A priest is murdered,” the synopsis for the film reads. “An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”
The Nun II Welcomes New and Returning Cast Members
The Nun II sees Taissa Farmiga (the younger sister of Vera Farmiga, who stars in the Conjuring films) return to the role of Sister Irene. Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons are also reprising their respective roles, while The Last of Us’ Storm Reid and The Chronicles of Narnia’s Anna Popplewell are joining the cast.
Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper wrote the screenplay for The Nun II, based on characters created by James Wan and Gary Dauberman. Both Wan and Peter Safran are producing the film, with Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michael Polaire all serving as executive producers.
Valak, the titular nun played by Aarons, debuted in 2016’s The Conjuring 2 before starring in the 2018 spin-off film. Additional films set within the Conjuring Universe include 2013’s The Conjuring, 2014’s Annabelle, 2017’s Annabelle: Creation, 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona, 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home and 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
The Nun II releases theatrically in North America on Sept. 8, 2023.
