FILMSTARTS writer Oliver Kube is sure: This masterpiece with Ben Affleck will take your breath away with a perfidious plan and an incredibly strong twist. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should definitely stream it
For me, Gone Girl – The Perfect Victim is close (very, very close!) to being the perfect thriller. It starts with Gillian Flynn’s excellent screenplay adaptation of her own bestselling novel* and continues with Jeff Cronenweth’s (“Fight Club”) brilliant camerawork as well as the top-class cast even in the supporting parts. All these elements are held together by director David Fincher’s (“Seven”) masterful staging – which tell a hair-raisingly exciting, yet always believable and involving story.
“Gone Girl” is a top shelf glossy thriller not only in my opinion. At the end of 2014, for example, it landed in top 10 lists of the most important US publications. And our official FILMSTARTS review also gives it the well-deserved top rating of five stars.

THIS IS WHAT “GONE GIRL” IS ALL ABOUT ON DISNEY+
On the outside, journalist Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) are a dream couple. Behind the beautiful façade, however, the climate between them has long since cooled down, even become downright frosty. For Nick has lost his job in New York and the two were forced to move to provincial Missouri, hated by Amy, where the husband now runs a bar with his sister Margo (Carrie Coon).
Despite the duo’s problems, Nick is horrified when – after an argument the night before – he comes home on the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary to find signs of a struggle in the house, while his wife has disappeared without a trace. Has Amy been abducted or perhaps even murdered? Nick alerts the police (Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit). But in their eyes and in the eyes of the media, who have become aware of the case, he himself quickly becomes the prime suspect. What happened here?
