Netflix has released an official teaser trailer for its upcoming Castlevania spin-off series, Castlevania: Nocturne.
Castlevania: Nocturne whips its way onto Netflix this September. The teaser trailer features all the action and violence fans of the streamer’s original Castlevania animated series have come to expect. However, it is also anchored by the tragedy and sorrow of Richter Belmont, the last in a long line of renowned vampire hunters.

Netflix’s Castlevania originally aired for four seasons from 2017 to 2021. Featuring Trevor Belmont as its main protagonist, the animated series is primarily based on the 1989 video game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. However, the show also borrows elements from 1997’s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and 2005’s Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It takes place in Wallachia during the mid-to-late 15th century.
In contrast, the upcoming Castlevania: Nocturne takes place in the late 18th century — during the French Revolution. The spin-off centers on Richter Belmont, Trevor’s distant descendant. It is primarily based on the 1993 video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and its 1997 sequel, the aforementioned Symphony of the Night.
Nocturne’s debut season consists of eight episodes, each running at 25 minutes.
“France, 1792 — the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of western France, the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and nightcreatures to crush the revolution and enslave humanity,” reads the synopsis. “Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks out Richter Belmont, last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters, to lead the resistance.”
Castlevania: Nocturne premieres Thursday, Sept. 28 on Netflix.
