Uzumaki Trailer Gives First Look At Adult Swim’s Junji Ito Anime

by Dennis

During Adult Swim‘s presence at San Diego Comic-Con last week, the company showed off a new Uzumaki trailer. It debuted brand new footage of the upcoming anime adaptation.

The latest Uzumaki trailer dives much deeper into the series than the first look teaser released in 2021. This new trailer features characters Kirie and Shuichi walking through the streets, while Shuichi describes the strange obsession with spirals his dad has been going through.

The trailer also highlights some of the downright scary visuals that artist and Uzumaki creator Junji Ito is known for. In the trailer, Shuichi’s father is seen obsessing over spirals. His eyes slowly roll before they rapidly rotate to match the spiral shape.

What do we know about the Uzumaki anime?

Originally announced in 2019, the Uzumaki anime adaptation has gone through a few delays since its original announcement. The anime was previously supposed to release in 2021, but was delayed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and need for more animators on the project. 2022 came and went with no real news, however, so it’s currently unknown when the project will release.

The four-episode anime series will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Flowers of Evil) with Hereditary‘s Colin Stetson set to compose the score. The series will also be produced by Drive Inc.

The anime is based on Junji Ito’s iconic manga series of the same name. Uzumaki is made up of three volumes first published in 1998. It follows the story of high school student Kirie Goshima, who lives in the cursed town of Kurôzu-cho — described as a small fogbound town located on the coast of Japan.
