Lassie – A new adventure: return of the most famous collie dog in the world, who spends a summer full of adventures in South Tyrol with the boy Flo.
Plot and background
At last, summer vacation! But this time Flo (Nico Marischka) doesn’t want to part with his collie dog Lassie to go on vacation with his parents to Gran Canaria. Instead, housekeeper Gerhardt (Justus von Dohnányi) drives them both in a convertible to South Tyrol in the mountains. Flo and Lassie spend the vacations with Flo’s aunt Cosima (Katharina Schüttler), who lives there picturesquely with Jack Russell Pippa and her foster children Kleo (Anna Lucia Gualano) and Henri (Pelle Staacken). Gerhardt, meanwhile, spends time at the Grand Hotel Sternberg, not far away, and assists the hotel owner Bianca Sternberg (Annette Frier) there – because he is completely inexperienced at taking vacations. When Flo, Kleo and Henri learn of missing dogs in the village, they anxiously resolve not to lose sight of Lassie and Pippa. But then Aunt Cosima’s house is broken into and Pippa is stolen! Will Lassie be able to track down the thieves and rescue the kidnapped dogs?

“Lassie – A New Adventure” marks the return of the world’s most famous collie dog to the big screen. Lassie’s creator is the British-American writer Eric Knight, who published the short story “Lassie Come Home” in the Saturday Evening Post on December 17, 1938. This was followed by numerous film adaptations about the close friendship between a boy and his faithful four-legged companion. “Lassie – A New Adventure” picks up where the 2020 German remake “Lassie – An Adventurous Journey” left off.
Nico Marischka is back as Lassie’s best friend Flo, and Justus von Dohnányi (“The School of Magical Animals”) plays housekeeper Gerhardt. Once again directed by Hanno Olderdissen, Aunt Cosima is played by Katharina Schüttler (“Rico, Oscar und der Diebstahlstein”), while Annette Frier (“Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer”) slips into the role of hotel owner Bianca Sternberg. The screenplay was penned by Andreas Cordes (“Lucy ist jetzt Gangster”).
The German theatrical release date for “Lassie – A New Adventure” is July 27, 2023.
