Rough ActiNew on Netflix: An action fireworks in “John Wick” manner with plenty of
Rough action, big stars and a straightforward, if twisty story – ready is the mix reminiscent of “John Wick” and Co. that should delight all old-school action fans. “The Protégé” is now available on Netflix.
With “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves celebrated his impressive action comeback in 2014. As the titular one-man army, he has since put an end to a series of underworld gangsters and hitmen. After “John Wick 4” thrilled the trade press and audiences and became the biggest hit of the series, and the creators around director David Leitch are already working on the series spin-off “The Continental” and the spin-off “Ballerina”, the stylish and uncompromising action saga also established a new sub-genre, which since the success of the “Wick” films has been followed by numerous similar films – from “Atomic Blonde” to “Nobody”.
And a film with a particularly prominent cast that fans of those action thrillers should definitely keep on their radar is now available on Netflix: “The Protége – Made For Revenge”. After the insider tip from 2021 already landed on Amazon Prime Video, the streaming platform with the red “N” has now secured the streaming rights.
At least for the author of this article, the revenge actioner is one of the better representatives of the genre. In terms of content, the film scores with its charismatic cast and strongly staged action scenes – and thus lives up to the high expectations that could have been placed on the actioner with a prominent cast both in front of and behind the camera.
In addition to Maggie Q, known from numerous action films such as “Rush Hour 2”, “Mission: Impossible III” and “Die Hard 4” as well as “Nikita”, you can also expect the two Hollywood legends Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton, who have also been involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for several years. And with Martin Campbell, a true genre veteran also took a seat in the director’s chair, known among other things for the Bond missions “Casino Royale” and “GoldenEye” as well as “The Foreigner” (with Jackie Chan) and “Mission Revenge” (with Mel Gibson).
