Interstellar

Interstellar: science fiction drama by Christopher Nolan about the daring search for a second Earth and the future of humanity.

Plot and background

In the near future, life on Earth does not look particularly rosy. The climate has changed drastically and numerous sandstorms are falling over the world, burying all life under them. Food is also slowly but surely running out. Those who want to survive become farmers and grow plants that (still) defy the sandstorms. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a father of two and widower, also sees no other option but to grow corn to tide over his children Murph (Mackenzie Foy) and Tom (Timothée Chalamet), as well as his father-in-law Donald (John Lithgow).

But there’s more to Cooper than a simple farmer struggling to survive on this planet. He’s actually an engineer and could never quite get comfortable with his new job as a farm owner. Before this life he also flew spaceships for NASA and until now an endless urge to discover slumbers in him. He soon realizes that the earth is not the end for mankind, but that there must be more out there. Through an inexplicable phenomenon, he discovers that – contrary to popular belief – the U.S. Air and Space Defense Command still exists.

There he meets Professor Brand (Michael Caine), who is working in secret with the government and NASA to save humanity from certain death. Cooper suddenly gets a chance to break out of his life and joins the daring but perhaps life-saving mission. He is to set out with an experienced team of scientists to find a new home for humans.
