This week new on Netflix: Horror, dino action and Johnny Depp vs.

by Han

Three well-known Hollywood blockbusters are launching on Netflix in the coming days, but of course the streaming service also has numerous originals on offer again, including the docu-series “Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard”.

Every Sunday, we present you with the biggest and most promising launches on Netflix in the coming week. After there were some very prominent Netflix originals recently with the third season “The Witcher” or the agent action thriller “Heart Of Stone”, it looks a bit quieter in the next few days. As a result, the three licensed films that Netflix is adding to its lineup on Wednesday are actually already the biggest titles. But enough of the preamble: here are the Netflix highlights of the week of August 14-20, 2023.

MONDAY: “SIX FEET UNDER” WITH A DIFFERENCE

In the Belgian comedy series “Home Soil,” a young man has the idea to import soil from Morocco to spruce up his family’s funeral home. Could be something for fans of black humor series like “Six Feet Under. “

Tuesday: DOPING-DOKU & ASIA-ACTION

On Tuesday, expect a new edition of Netflix’s “Untold” documentary series titled “Hall Of Shame,” this time focusing on doping and steroid abuse in the sports world. There’s also the Taiwanese epidemic thriller “Eye Of The Storm” and the Korean actioner “Believer,” in which a cop hunts down a drug lord.

WEDNESDAY: BIG CINEMA & THE ROSE WAR OF THE YEAR

While traditionally Thursday or Friday sees the biggest Netflix new releases of the week, this time Wednesday is without question the most important launch day of the week. Here are three big Hollywood movies at once: the acapella college comedy “Pitch Perfect 3,” the horror prequel “The First Purge” and “Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom,” the second installment in the new dino series.

In addition, “The Chosen One” and “At Home with the Furys” are two more new Netflix original series launching. And with “Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard,” you can dive (again) into the court battle between the two Hollywood stars that kept the Internet and the tabloids abuzz in 2022.

THURSDAY: SERIES-FRESH FOR BIG AND SMALL

Meanwhile, two established Netflix formats continue on Thursday, namely the sitcom “The Upshaws” (Season 4) and the animated series “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” (Season 2). Both are suitable for both young and old audiences, which can be said of the also launching true-crime documentary “A Life Too Short: The Case of Isabella Nardoni” can probably not be said.

FRIDAY: THE INSPIRATION FOR “DRAGON BALL” REMADE

Friday will be very international: the biggest new release is certainly the animated film “The Monkey King,” an American-Chinese co-production that retells the famous story “The Journey to the West” with numerous Asian and Asian-American stars. This has already served as a template for the manga megahit “Dragon Ball,” among others.

You can also expect the South African romantic drama “Love, Sex and 30 Candles,” the Turkish crime thriller “10 Days of a Bad Man” and the Korean series “Mask Girl,” in which a shy office worker becomes a masked Internet star.

SAMDAY & SUNDAY: TIME FOR THE WATCHLIST

In recent months, Netflix had often announced some reboots for Saturday and Sunday as well, but that’s not the case this week. Maybe one or the other title will appear here spontaneously. If not, you still have time to work through your watchlist or watch one of the movies and series above.
