Fans can’t wait: Today the best series goes on Disney+.

This makes your mouth water! But even with a top chef as the protagonist, the result is anything but the usual glossy food porn. Instead, Season 2 of the best Disney+ series ever starts today…

“The Bear – King Of The Kitchen” is rather unimpressive only at first glance. But there’s a reason why Christopher Storer’s half-hour series, often misclassified as a “comedy” because of its running time, is currently nominated for a whopping 13 Emmys – and made iMDB’s list of the 250 Best Series of All Time (according to audience ratings) to boot!

As of now, the ten episodes of the highly anticipated second season of “The Bear” are also available in Germany – exclusively as a Disney+ subscription:

The first season of “The Bear” is about top chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (terrific: Jeremy Allen White), who returns from New York to his hometown of Chicago to take over his late brother’s debt-ridden and poorly organized sandwich store. What sounds like the plot for an 08/15 comedy, however, reaches an incredible depth already in the first episodes.

Not only does “The Bear” hit the organizational procedures and psychological challenges of a professional kitchen with a precision like no series before it – there are also character moments, told as if in passing, that alternately hit you like a punch in the gut or instantly restore your faith in humanity.

Something like a classic plot is hinted at from time to time, but series creator Christopher Storer does well not to commit to any of the well-trodden paths and instead consistently leaves out all the clichés: Thus, the first season of “The Bear” achieves an atmospheric-melancholic, rousing-optimistic flow that you just can’t escape…

THIS IS WHAT SEASON 2 OF “THE BEAR” IS ALL ABOUT

In season 2, it now looks like the series will take a more traditional narrative structure: As decided in the last episode of the first season, the sandwich store will be closed in order to open a more upscale family restaurant called “The Bear” in the same location. However, the money found by Carmy in his dead brother’s tomato paste cans will only last a certain amount of time to cover the remodeling and running costs. So even though the restaurant is currently closed, every move must continue to be made as usual – and even every minor setback is a potential disaster.

But don’t worry: Even though the second season now has a “clearer” goal, “The Bear” will not suddenly become an 08/15 series, quite the opposite! The driving rhythm remains the same – the pure humanity of the motley kitchen crew continues to ooze from every pore!

In 2022, the editorial teams of FILMSTARTS and Moviepilot jointly voted for the best series of the year – and “The Bear” made it onto the podium of the top 3 best series of the year right away! We praised “The Bear” as a “furious series rush that will make you dizzy” and that “pulls you back into the incomprehensible kitchen action again and again”. It would have to be up to the devil if the second season didn’t once again find itself very high on the list in December’s upcoming poll.
