“The Witcher”: This is how different Henry Cavill’s last scene was originally supposed to be

by Tommy

Henry Cavill’s last scene as the Witcher Geralt of Riva was originally supposed to feature another character besides Jaskier and Milva: Cahir (Eamon Farren). The plan was probably a clearer reference to the plot of “The Witcher” season 4.

As a farewell (before Liam Hemsworth takes over the Geralt role in season 4) Henry Cavill gets a good fight in “The Witcher” season 3. Whether it makes so much sense that Geralt slaughters a group of Nilfgaardian soldiers here remains to be seen, but for his fans this is of course a nice farewell – just like the last shot of Henry Cavill, in which he disappears together with Jaskier / Knightspur (Joey Batey) and Milva (Meng’er Zhang) in the sun-drenched morning mist. But originally, another character was supposed to appear here.

For as Redanian Intelligence reports, Cahir (Eamon Farren) was also supposed to play a role in this scene. In the spring of 2022, when the filming of the third season was just beginning, the extremely reliable “The Witcher” site received the information that in one of the last scenes of Season 3 the following should happen: “Milva helps Geralt in distress, while Cahir watches from a distance.”

This can only mean the final battle, in which Milva kills three soldiers with arrows who might otherwise have overpowered Geralt. However, there is no trace of Cahir in the scene; instead, he was last seen in episode 6 of “The Witcher” season 3: After he throws himself at Ciri’s feet and she spares his life, he confronts a troop of mounted Scoia’tael.

This scene from episode 6 is the last time we saw Cahir (right).

What Cahir’s fate is in “The Witcher” is left so open in the series, because on foot against an enemy superiority he seems to be quite without a chance. On the other hand, if Cahir had made another appearance at the end, as was apparently originally planned, that would have been a much clearer pointer towards season 4.

WILL CAHIR FINALLY BE ONE OF THE GOOD ONES?

This one, in fact, is based on the Witcher novel “Baptism of Fire” by Andrzej Sapkowski and is largely about Geralt’s search for Ciri. In addition to Jaskier and Milva, he is gradually joined by several other companions – including Cahir. We strongly assume that this will also be the case for the Netflix series.

Presumably, those responsible for “The Witcher” are now following a similar path as the book by Andrzej Sapkowski. In the book, Cahir is injured during the slaughter in the wizard fortress Aretuza and is finally captured by the elf Isengrim (who has not yet appeared in the series).

Just as he is about to be transferred to Nilfgaard – after all, he has betrayed Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards) several times now – fate brings him together with Geralt once again. After following Geralt’s group for a while against their will, he is allowed to join them at some point. It should play out similarly in the series.
