Apple has released the official trailer for Flora and Son, an upcoming musical dramedy about a single mother who tries to connect with her rebellious teenage son through music.
The video introduces Flora, as she enlists the help of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character — an LA-based musician — to teach her guitar to bond with her son. The film had its world premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, and is now scheduled to arrive in select theaters on September 22.

What to Expect in Flora and Son?
“In the film, Single mom Flora is at a loss about what to do with her rebellious teenage son, Max,” reads the synopsis. “Encouraged by the police to find Max a hobby, Flora tries to occupy him with a beat-up acoustic guitar. With the help of a washed-up LA musician (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Flora and Max discover the transformative power of music. From the musical mind of John Carney, Flora and Son explores the bond between a mother and son on a journey toward a new harmony.”
The film is written and directed by Irish filmmaker John Carney, who is best known for directing other musical dramedy films including Once, Begin Again and Sing Street. It stars Eve Hewson (This Must Be the Place) as Flora, Orén Kinlan as Max, Jack Reynor (Midsommar) as Ian, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer) as Jeff, Kelly Thornton (Clean Break) as Heart, and Sophie Vavasseur (Evelyn) as Juanita.
Flora and Son is produced by Carney, Anthony Bregman, Peter Cron, Rebecca O’Flanagan, and Robert Walpole. Executive producers are Alison Cohen, Cathleen Dore, and Milan Popelka.
