Even though it’s already filmed: Disney still saws big fantasy series

The book originals and the first film adaptation from 2008 have a lot of fans. Nevertheless, the planned eight-part series will now not appear on Disney+: We’re talking about “The Spiderwick Chronicles” aka “The Secrets of the Spiderwicks. “

It was announced in November 2021, filming began in November 2022, but although all eight episodes have been shot and completed, “The Spiderwicks Chronicles” series will not appear on Disney+ as planned. This is reported by the US industry magazine Deadline.

The reason for this is the realignment of the streaming sector, which almost all Hollywood studios are currently undergoing. Disney wants to save $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion by removing movies and series from the Disney+ portfolio and focusing on formats that are part of the Disney brand. In fact, total savings of $3 billion are planned.

Because as Deadline further reports, the studio behind “The Spiderwick Chronicles” series is currently looking for a new home. The series was produced by Paramount Television and 20th Television. While the latter studio is part of the Disney corporation, that’s not the case with Paramount Television, which is why Paramount is now looking for a new streaming service or TV channel.

Perhaps “Secrets of the Spiderwicks” series will end up on Netflix, where currently (but only for a short time) the “Secrets of the Spiderwicks” movie can also be streamed?

Another completed series will also not appear on Disney+ as planned: “Nautilus” is a remake of Jules Verne’s literary classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” Here, Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif) is an Indian prince whose throne is stolen by the evil East India Company. With the help of his crew and his submarine, the Nautilus, he takes up the fight and discovers a magical underwater world…
