Disney’s remake of “Snow White” coming to theaters in 2024 is being hotly debated online. It almost goes under the radar that there will soon be a new version of the original animated classic on Disney+ as well, which should really please everyone
As of last Friday, August 25, 2023, Disney’s 1950s animated classic “Cinderella” is available on streaming service Disney+ in a new look and shine. A team led by veteran animator Eric Goldberg, who was involved in hits like “Aladdin” and “Vaiana,” worked on a lavish 4K restoration that took many fans’ breath away with its colors.

For many do not even know “Cinderella” as the film is now finally back on Disney+. Over the years, there had been repeated copies of copies of copies, in which colors were also interpreted and thus changed. In many of the earlier edits, they were a bit overzealous, ironing so much smooth that glitter disappeared and colors became flatter. The previous Blu-ray release was harshly criticized for this reason.
For the new restoration, which was also released in advance as a 4K Blu-ray, they went back to the source and took the original film print from 1950 as source material.
But the best news for fans of the old Disney classics is: it’s just the beginning. That’s because the Mouse House plans to lavishly restore more classics. The team led by Kevin Schaeffer and Eric Goldberg is already working on the next title: “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
A 4K RESTORATION OF “SNOW WHITE AND THE 7 DWARFS “IS COMING
The animated classic from 1937, which was only released in cinemas in Germany in 1950, should then also shine again for the first time in the kind of splendor that thrilled audiences on the big screen back then. It will be a new and then probably best possible version of the film.
Since work has been going on for some time, there could still be a release at the end of 2023. But Disney may also release the new 4K version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” on Blu-ray to coincide with the remake’s theatrical release in March 2024, and on Disney+. While the remake starring Rachel Zegler is already the subject of much controversy on the internet, this should then be a “Snow White” version to wow everyone – at least if Schaeffer, Goldberg and co. do as stellar a job as they did with “Cinderella.”
What an immense difference this restoration already made to “Cinderella” is illustrated by the images and videos in these posts by film critic Dave Lee on short message service X (formerly Twitter):
DELIGHTED by the response to my Tweet showcasing Disney’s new 4K restoration of Cinderella. People TRULY CARE! Here’s a small video comparison. Remember, footage will be compressed here, but this gives an idea of the 4K master, showing the film in all its original splendour. https://t.co/BKvgro3xeU pic.twitter.com/3KDYEUxHJQ

By the way, the duo already has their sights set on more titles after “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” In interviews about the 4K release of “Cinderella”, Schaeffer and Goldberg explained: “They hope that afterwards they will also be able to help “Fantasia”, “Sleeping Beauty and the Prince” as well as “Alice in Wonderland” back to their former glory.
