Marrok, the masked man in an Inquisitor armor, is puzzling all “Star Wars” fans right now. Who is hiding under the helmet? Until the reveal in “Ahsoka,” we can only forge theories…
FILMSTARTS video editor Sebastian Gerdshikow took a look at the latest episode of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” on Disney+ in the video embedded above. And in a detailed analysis of episode 3, there is of course one topic that is on the minds of all “Star Wars” fans right now: Who is Marrok, the helmet-bearer who makes common cause with Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) and Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto)?
THERE’S THE STARKILLER THEORY …
A now fairly widespread theory, which Sebastian also briefly discusses in the video before turning to a real doozy, is that Marrok could actually be Darth Vader’s apprentice Galen Marek a.k.a. Starkiller from the video game “The Force Unleashed. “
As the credits for “Ahsoka” state, Marrok is indeed played by stuntman Paul Darnell, who, incidentally, also appeared in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” But the credits also mention another name – not Marrok, but assigned to an “additional voice”, but well known to some “Star Wars” fans: Sam Witwer, the voice actor of Starkiller and of the returning “Episode 1” villain Maul in the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” series.
The mention of Sam Witwer in the credits, the similarity of the names Marek and Marrok – but maybe that’s exactly to lead us on a false trail. Moreover, if Sam Witwer actually spoke Marrok’s lines, he should be mentioned as Marrok in the credits. But Sebastian has a much crazier theory up his sleeve for you – and we don’t mean the one that it could be Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi)…
..BUT IT GETS EVEN CRAZIER!
The theory is that under the mask of Marrok could be Luuke. Yes, you read that right, Luuke, not Luke. Who is that? Luuke is Luke Skywalker’s clone – and might not be familiar to all “Star Wars” fans because he is not part of the canon, but part of the Legends. But that’s exactly where Luuke has a connection to Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), the great villain of “Ahsoka”: Luuke appears in the first Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn, where he fights against Thrawn.
And considering that the series of the Mandoverse are pretty much about cloning and that Dave Filoni generally seems to enjoy bringing elements from the Legends back into canon, this absurd sounding theory suddenly doesn’t seem impossible anymore. You can find out more about this in Sebastian’s video for “Ahsoka” episode 3.
The fourth episode of “Ahsoka” will be released on Disney+ on September 6, 2023 and maybe then it will already be revealed who is under Marrok’s helmet.
