Do you remember?: German romantic comedy starring Senta Berger, in which two miracle pills break through a married couple’s dull daily routine and bring back long-forgotten memories.
Plot and background
After more than 50 years of marriage, a dreary routine has inevitably crept into Marianne’s (Senta Berger) and Günter’s (Günther Maria Halmer) everyday life as they grow older. The children are out of the house, what remains is a certain resignation. And then there is this annoying forgetfulness: lately the memory of the two pensioners seems to let them down more and more. So Marianne’s assumption that Günter has forgotten their wedding day is obvious. But in fact her husband has an ace up his sleeve: He has obtained a new miracle pill from a friend, which is supposed to bring back all repressed memories. And indeed, after taking it, everything is suddenly back. Together, the couple embarks on a journey through their memories and revisits the highs and lows of their lives for a second time, until they finally remember the most important thing – what they fell in love with. And so Marianne and Günter cast off the vices of the mundane, fall in love again, and make wild plans just as they did when they were young. The only question is what happens when the intoxication wears off and the pill stops working.
The official trailer promises a touching romantic comedy:
“Remember?” – Background, cast, theatrical release
Following their joint hit comedy “Und wer nimmt den Hund?”, the German filmmaking trio consisting of director Rainer Kaufmann, screenwriter Martin Rauhaus and producer Heike Wiehle-Timm once again devote themselves to the ups and downs of long relationships. In a humorous way, “Do you remember?” tells the story of a trip into the past for two married couples who seem to have lost sight of the essentials over the years. They are embodied by two renowned German acting stars. Senta Berger (“Welcome to the Hartmanns”) had actually declared her professional career over, but was brought back to the screen by director Rainer Kaufmann, where she slips into the role of Marianne. At her side is Bavarian acting legend Günther Maria Halmer (“Family Feast”) as her husband Günter, who kicks off an unforgettable adventure for the couple with two small pills. Musician and actor Konstantin Wecker was in front of the camera in a guest role.
