Will everything be better with the third attempt? So far, there are at least some indications that “Percy Jackson: The Series” will be a more successful adaptation than the two “Percy Jackson” films. Now there is the longest trailer to date for the series on Disney+:
“Percy Jackson – Thieves in Olympus” from 2010 and the sequel “Percy Jackson 2 – Under the Spell of the Cyclops” from 2013 were not particularly popular with fans, the trade press or Rick Riordan, the author of the book, and did solidly at best at the box office. 10 years later, a series adaptation on Disney+ is supposed to make everything better – and at least the participation of Rick Riordan and the first trailers made many fans hopeful.
Now there is a new trailer for “Percy Jackson: Die Serie”, as the remake is officially called in Germany (in the original, however, it is called “Percy Jackson And The Olympians”). “Percy Jackson: The Series” will be released on Disney+ on 20 December 2023 and will consist of eight episodes, with two episodes being released directly on launch day and the rest then released in weekly intervals.
Ideal holiday fodder for fantasy fans and after the first two (teaser) trailers showed very little Olympian gods and goddesses as well as mythological creatures, the new preview now actually dives fully into this fantastic world.
In the trailer, for example, Percy Jackson is attacked by a harpy, discovers that his best friend Grover is actually a goat-legged satyr and has to deal with a minotaur.
The first season of “Percy Jackson: The Series” features the first book in the “Percy Jackson” series by Rick Riordan: Twelve-year-old Perseus “Percy” Jackson” (Walker Scobell) learns that he is not just a normal boy with normal problems, but the son of the sea god Poseidon. And not only that: he is also accused by the father of the gods Zeus (“John Wick” star Lance Reddick in one of his last roles) of having stolen his ruling lightning bolt.
Together with his best friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri), who is in fact a satyr and has been secretly watching over him, and Annabeth (Leah Jeffries), a daughter of Athena, Percy sets out to find the real culprit…
In addition to Rick Riordan himself, showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, who have already worked together on the pirate series “Black Sails” and the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series “See”, are responsible for “Percy Jackson: The Series”. Other prominent names in the cast include Jay Duplass as the god of the dead Hades, Lin-Manuel Miranda as the messenger of the gods Hermes and comedian and actor Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, god of wine.
