Plot and Background
Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) are newly engaged and share a flat in New York City and their job at an investment firm on Wall Street. But the tough office protocol at the hedge fund One Crest Capital forces them to keep their personal relationship a secret in their daily work routine. The couple’s nevertheless harmonious relationship takes a dark turn when the balance of power between them changes. After Emily receives a promotion that Luke had actually been speculating on, they both get caught up in an increasingly dangerous game and have to realise how far ambition will drive them.
“Fair Play” – background, cast, cinema release
With her feature debut “Fair Play”, director and screenwriter Chloe Domont explores power and gender dynamics in heteroromantic relationships, examining how breaking established expectations can challenge partnerships and what happens when the pursuit of power and wounded pride collide. Prior to the relationship thriller, Domont made her name directing short films and episodes of the television series “Billions”, “Suits” and “Ballers”.
The thriller has a renowned cast with “Bridgerton” star Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”) in the leading roles. Other roles are played by Eddie Marsan (“Happy-Go-Lucky”), Rich Sommer (“Mad Men”) and Sebastian De Souza (“Skins”).
Chloe Domont’s feature film debut premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where the film was well received. Netflix subsequently secured the rights to “Fair Play”, which is why the thriller, following its theatrical release on 5 October 2023, can be viewed in the streaming provider’s programme from 13 October 2023.
