Murder hunt meets time travel mindfuck à la “Dark”: Mysterious

by Mike

You like it when films and series leave you in the dark and encourage you to guess and think along? Then make a note of the real-life graphic novel adaptation “Bodies”. Here’s the teaser trailer:

The first trailer for “Bodies” may be too short, but it gives us a glimpse of the fascinating plot of the British series. First of all, the classic crime and thriller feeling comes through. In addition, we are also introduced to a sci-fi component, which – since the story takes place in parallel on several time levels – gives off a certain “dark” vibe. And since the German Netflix hit has ended in the meantime, “Bodies” could perhaps close the gap that has arisen for fans of the series.

We will find out whether this is really the case on 19 October 2023, when “Bodies” with all eight episodes starts worldwide and exclusively in the Netflix streaming programme. Since it is a so-called “limited series”, the plot is supposed to be brought to a definite end at the end of the eight episodes.

Expect Stephen Graham (“Snatch – Pigs and Diamonds”), “Unorthodox” star Shira Haas, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Kyle Soller (“Star Wars: Andor”) and Amaka Okafor from “Greatest Days” in the leading roles.

Inventor, screenwriter, producer and showrunner is Paul Tomalin (“The Frankenstein Chronicles”, “Torchwood”). The production of the episodes is shared by London-based Chinese Haolu Wang (“Doctor Who”) and German director Marco Kreuzpaintner (“The Collini Case”, “BEAT”).

The miniseries is based on the graphic novel of the same name by British author Si Spencer (“Judge Dredd”, “The Vinyl Underground”), who died in 2021. In 2014, it was published in the form of eight separate issues by the DC imprint Vertigo. These days, a reissued anthology with the complete “Bodies” series is being published.

“BODIES”: THIS IS THE STORY

London in the present day: Detective Sergeant Hasan (Amaka Okafor) is chasing an armed teenager through the narrow streets and gloomy corners of the British capital. When the teenager turns around and points his gun at her, the lifeless, completely naked body of a man suddenly appears next to her. Hasan didn’t hear a shot and didn’t see anyone else either – the body just came out of nowhere.

After the young offender takes advantage of her confusion and escapes, the officer investigates the crime. What she doesn’t know is that three other police officers (Kyle Soller, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Shira Haas) are also pursuing the same murder in the same place with the same victim in 1890, 1941 and 2053. The cops’ investigation puts them at the centre of a mysterious conspiracy that not only spans a timeline of over 150 years, but also threatens the lives of many …
