Netflix’s One Piece adaptation thrives on the dedication of stars like Zoro actor Mackenyu. He wouldn’t be in a conversion of his favorite anime, however.
The One Piece series on Netflix enjoys unwavering popularity, thanks in no small part to its passionate stars. However, they are also afraid of some adaptations: Zoro actor Mackenyu would apparently be extremely reluctant to embody a character from his favorite anime.
One Piece star Mackenyu would rather leave adaptation of cult anime to others
In a conversation with Collider, also quoted from by our colleagues at Allociné, the One Piece cast is asked about his favorite anime. Mackenyu calls the cult franchise Hunter X Hunter, but as an actor wants nothing to do with an adaptation: When asked who he would want to play in an adaptation, he simply exclaims, “I won’t play anyone!”

His attitude is understandable. On the one hand, every fan identifies with one or more characters in their favorite anime. On the other hand, many distrust the fidelity of future adaptations, for whose success or failure one would be partly responsible as a performer:in. Presumably, Mackenyu is simply afraid of screwing up the embodiment of a great idol. Wrongly so, as his acclaimed acting in One Piece shows.
Hunter X Hunter is based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, which was adapted a second time for an anime series in 2011 with Hunter x Hunter. There, a young boy learns that his absent father belongs to the famous association of the so-called Hunter.
These are particularly gifted and privileged people who hunt for animals, treasures, but also other people and experience adventures all over the world. The protagonist wants to join the organization and find his father.
