Wild Seas: French drama about a fisherman’s wife who becomes increasingly attracted to her much younger apprentice.
Plot and background
Chiara (Cécile de France) and her husband Antoine (Grégoire Monsaingeon) have long been well-adjusted in their marriage, work routine and personal life. Twenty years ago, she left her life in Belgium behind and followed him to the Atlantic island. On the high seas, every move is perfect, the marriage is routine, business is good.
All this is put to the test when young Maxence (Félix Lefebvre) begins his apprenticeship with them. At first Chiara is skeptical of him, believing that he is not made for the hard work on a fishing boat. After a big storm that takes the fishing village by surprise and leaves great damage in its wake, it is Maxence, of all people, who stands up for the concerns of the villagers. A short time later, when Antoine travels to the mainland as a representative of the fishermen’s union, Chiara casts furtive glances at Maxence more often than she would like. Soon a secret, passionate affair begins between Chiara and Maxence – but it threatens to shake their safe living environment. A difficult decision between the security of her marriage and a fresh approach to a significantly younger man is imminent.
