Sound of Freedom: Action movie based on true story in which a government agent tries to save hundreds of children from sex work.
plot and background
Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel) fights a seemingly hopeless battle against international child and human trafficking as a special agent for Homeland Security. While rescuing Miguel (Lucás Ávila), a young boy from Honduras who was being held by child traffickers, Ballard learns of the tragic fate of Miguel’s little sister Rocio (Cristal Aparicio), who is still in the hands of the criminals. Miguel asks the government agent to save his sister, but Ballard’s superior doesn’t want to hear about his daring exploits, so the agent unceremoniously quits his job and embarks on a journey into the Colombian jungle in search of Rocío, where a life-threatening mission awaits him.
“Sound of Freedom” – background, cast, theatrical release
Based on a true story, “Sound of Freedom” tells of the struggle of former Homeland Security special agent Tim Ballard, portrayed by Jim Caviezel (“Angel Eyes”), who gave up his job to rescue abducted children. The thriller became a surprise hit in U.S. theaters in the summer of 2023 and stayed in the top ten of the U.S. box office charts for eight weeks due to its stirring subject matter and an unusual marketing campaign. Another reason for this success was probably that the film was glorified by conspiracy theorists and right-wing groups as evidence for their campaigns and theories after its U.S. release, which caused a lot of controversy around “Sound of Freedom”. German distributor 24Bilder and Mexican director and screenwriter Alejandro Monteverde (“Bella”) publicly distanced themselves from the political instrumentalization of the thriller.
“Sound of Freedom” opens in theaters here on November 8, 2023.
