Netflix presents us the second trailer for the disaster thriller “Leave The World Behind” with a large star cast. In it we see a lot more from the promising and quite intense coming across bestseller adaptation.
“Leave The World Behind” is about an apparently terrorist cyber attack that paralyzes first New York City, then large parts of the U.S. East Coast and finally the entire country within a very short time and plunges into a huge chaos. The screenplay and production of the glossy thriller were written by “Mr. Robot” mastermind Sam Esmail.
The film celebrated its world premiere on October 25, 2023 at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles. On November 22, the title still opens in some select U.S. theaters – among other things, to be eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards. On December 8, 2023, “Leave The World Behind” will then launch worldwide on Netflix’s streaming program.

In the leading roles, expect Julia Roberts (“Erin Brokovich”) and Ethan Hawke (“Training Day”) playing a married couple. They are joined by two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight,” “Green Book”), Myha’la Herrold from “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” and Golden Globe winner Kevin Bacon (“Mystic River”) with parts that are also very important.
In addition to Roberts and Esmail, former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are also acting as producers. Big fans of the book, they co-financed the project through their production company Higher Ground (“We The People,” “Worth”).
“LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND”: THIS IS THE STORY
Clay (Hawke) and Amanda (Roberts) and their almost grown-up children Rose (Farrah Mackenzie) and Archie (Charlie Evans) need a break from the stress of the big city. For this purpose, they have booked a rather remote, but luxuriously furnished vacation home with a spacious property on the coast of Long Island.
Everything is going wonderfully, when one night suddenly someone knocks violently on the door. The late-night interrupters introduce themselves as George (Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Herrold). They claim to be the owners of the property and demand that their tenants give them shelter. They claim that there has been a complete power failure in New York and that the Internet has also collapsed. As a result, there has been widespread panic among the population, which is already escalating into outbreaks of violence.
The couple doesn’t know whether they can trust the new arrivals – after all, they haven’t heard anything about all this. But then they discover that their smartphones, television and Internet have actually gone down as well. Then they hear a deafening bang, and Amanda remembers a man she saw a few days ago frantically shopping for hamsters. Does this Danny (Bacon) know anything more?
