After a long wait, the first trailer for the samurai epic Shōgun has been released. The remake of the novel of the same name is a visually stunning historical series
The series Shōgun has been in development at US broadcaster FX for five years. Now the ambitious project has finally been announced with a first trailer. The story of the Samurai epic is based on the novel of the same name by James Clavell and takes us back to Japan in the 1600s.
War, betrayal and passion: Shōgun has everything it takes to become one of the best series of 2024
The story centers on British navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who is on his way to Japan with a Dutch warshipon his way to Japanon his way to Japan. Military and economic interests motivate the voyage. But then the sea swallows the ship and John is stranded on the coast of Japan.
As a prisoner, he arrives at the court of the daimyo Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada). Over time, he is able togain the trust of the powerful feudal lordand he is able to win the samurai’s trust. However, when he falls in love with the samurai lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), the situation becomes precarious and he must make a serious decision in order to survive.

New samurai epic: When will Shōgun start on Disney+?
The specific start date for Shōgun has not yet been set. In the USA, the series will be released in February 2024via FX on Hulu. In Germany, it will be released on the streaming service Disney+ in a similar timeframe.
