With masterpieces and cult films such as Seven and Fight Club, David Fincher has become one of the most popular directors. The filmmaker has now returned to Netflix with a new thriller about a contract killer that could pass for a first-class John Wick rival.
The killer has already climbed to the top of the streaming service’s film top 10 since its release on November 10. Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro has also outed himself as a big fan of the thriller
Master director praises Netflix smash hit with tweet
My Moviepilot colleague Jenny is not the only one celebrating The Killer as the best Netflix thriller of the year. Guillermo del Toro has posted an enthusiastic statement about the new David Fincher film on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter):
The Killer is a beautiful Bronson movie if penned by Sartre and filmed by Melville with the briskness of a Siegel. I simply love, love, love when Fincher swings with a mean genre beat. The Killer is a beautiful Bronson movie, as if it were written by [Jean-Paul] Sartre and filmed by Melville with the vivacity of a Siegel. I love, love, love that when Fincher swings along with a straightforward genre beat. Nimble and clockwork-precise and fun. The most entertaining movie I’ve seen in a long time. It’s great when you can watch a serious movie and a work of entertainment at the same time.
This is the plot of Fincher’s new Netflix thriller
In the story of The Killer, Michael Fassbender plays a perfectionist contract killer who carries out his missions with stoic precision. However, he makes a mistake on a job in Paris that turns him into the hunted. When his private life comes under threat, he goes on the attack against his superiors.
