Netflix breathes new life into Terminator with a series for which the first teaser has now been released. Following a mega-flop, many had already written off the sci-fi franchise
Who’s afraid of killer robots anymore? Contrary to the predictions of the Terminator series, many people today are probably more afraid of the machines that could take their jobs. Perhaps this also explains the historic flop of Terminator: Dark Fate. However, Netflix cares little about the life-threatening imbalance of the franchise: A first teaser has now been released for Terminator: The Anime Series.

Netflix’s Terminator series returns to the beginnings of the franchise after sci-fi flop
As What’s on Netflix quotes from the series’ official synopsis, the project will be set in the most important year in the franchise’s history: in 1997, the defense AI Skynet gains self-awareness and starts the war between humans and machines with a nuclear first strike. A soldier is sent back in time from the dystopian future. His job is to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee, who could avert the catastrophe with a rival AI.
The anime series is being realized by the studio Production I.G, which was already responsible for the Netflix series B: The Beginning. Terminator: The Anime Series will initially comprise eight episodes. There are no images or details about the voice cast yet.
Whether the series can be successful or spark new enthusiasm for the franchise remains to be seen. When is the Terminator series coming to Netflix?
It is not yet clear exactly when the Terminator series will be released on Netflix. The first teaser promises a prompt start. We assume a release in the course of 2024
