After the first trailer for Netflix’s sci-fi spectacle, series fans can hardly wait for the start of The 3 Suns. We have all the information and now the start date has also been set
The 3 Suns is the next major project from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They are adapting the highly acclaimed sci-fi novel trilogy by Liu Cixin for Netflix. No series fan will be able to avoid it.
The budget is said to be 200 million US dollars, which would make it the most expensive sci-fi series and the most expensive Netflix series ever. Even the currently most expensive Netflix hit One Piece “only” made it to 144 million for the first season. The 3 Suns is one of several series from Benioff and Weiss’ mega-deal with Netflix.
In this article you will find all the information you need about The 3 Suns:

Start date: When will The 3 Suns come to Netflix
The 1st season of the science fiction series The 3 Suns will not start in January 2024 as originally thought. However, we now have an exact start date: The 3 Suns will be released on Netflix on March 24, 2024. Until then, you can enjoy 15 series highlights that will start in 2023.
We assume that Netflix will release the season in two blocks, starting around a month apart. This is how the streamer has recently handled major series such as Stranger Things and The Witcher
Plot: What is the sci-fi series The 3 Suns about?
With the official plot, Netflix doesn’t want to give away too much of the complex story. What’s on Netflix reports:
A young woman’s fateful decision in China in the 1960s echoes through time and space to a brilliant group of scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature begin to shift before their eyes, five former colleagues join forces to confront the greatest threat in human history.
We can still give you a somewhat more concrete insight into The 3 Suns thanks to the novel – without spoiling anything, of course.
The original is told with many flashbacks, flash-forwards and a story in the present. Chronologically, the story begins in China in the 1960s during the Cultural Revolution. Astrophysicist Ye Wenjie is involved in a secret research project to find extraterrestrial life in space. She succeeds – but with terrible consequences.
The species contacted are the so-called Trisolarians from the planet Trisolaris. They are looking for a new home and have chosen Earth for it. However, the devastating invasion is over 400 years in the future due to the great distance
In 2007, a series of strange suicides of important scientists occur. The nano-scientist Wang Miao and the policeman Si Qiang investigate related incidents. They eventually come across a mysterious virtual reality video game that has something to do with the Trisolarians.
If you want to know more and be spoiled, you can read the sprawling original
Submission: Is the Chinese novel trilogy available in German?
The series is based on the so-called Trisolaris trilogy by Liu Cixin * from 2006. A German translation has been available since 2017. The trilogy consists of the following volumes:
The Three Suns
The Dark Forest
Beyond time
It is one of the best-known Chinese sci-fi book series. The author himself speaks very highly of the adaptation and has “the greatest respect” for the creative team at Netflix. He works closely with series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
By the way, there is already a movie adaptation of his bestseller and you can stream the other The 3 Suns series for free.
Trailer: Is there any video footage of Netflix’s The 3 Suns yet?
The first teaser trailer for Netflix’s The 3 Suns is a great show. But be careful, don’t believe everything you see
Much of it presumably takes place in the aforementioned virtual reality game. We can already see some of the performers in the teaser

‘It always comes down to the quality of the writing, and these guys deliver some of the best I’ve read in my life. And I was with the Royal Shakespeare Company for a year and a half.
Cunningham himself has never read the books for Game of Thrones or The 3 Suns. For him, only the script counts.
