While the Fight Club comedy Bottoms was a hit in cinemas in the USA, it is now coming directly to Amazon Prime. And lets fists and laugh muscles do the talking
From today, November 21, 2023, you can watch a comedy that has already caused a stir in the USA as a new Fight Club variant: Bottoms unleashes his student fight club and gives David Fincher’s film with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton a new twist.
Fight Club at School: Bottoms is now on Amazon Prime
The plot of Bottoms is quickly explained: PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (The Bear star Ayo Edebiri) are best friends, but neither overly well-known nor particularly popular at their high school. It’s only when the two queer teenagers accidentally knock out the school’s football star, Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine), in the car that their reputation unexpectedly rises.
Swimming on this new wave of popularity, they decide to start a new fight club. Ostensibly to give other oppressed schoolgirls coaching in self-defense. But actually just to pick up the two cheerleaders they’ve had a crush on for a long time. That way, they might be able to finally have sex by the time they graduate.

Bottoms plays with familiar teen movie themes such as the aspiration to lose one’s virginity, but also blatantly draws on the idea of David Fincher’s cult film Fight Club with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. Comedically, the violent group therapy is relocated to a high school and turned upside down so that this time, instead of men, only young women are allowed to join as defensive members – resulting in a refreshingly wacky mix.
Is Bottoms on Amazon worth it?
The biggest unique selling point for Bottoms on Amazon Prime is its kinky charm. Because although the two main characters act out of selfish motives under the guise of feminism and tell outrageous lies to do so, you can never stay angry with them for long, despite all their obvious mistakes.
If you can’t stand the embarrassment and fatness of comedies, Bottoms might not be the right choice for you. But the movie pairing of Fight Club and Girls Club often hits the diaphragm target with the blows they dish out when blood and laughter mix.
After director Emma Seligman produced resonant entertainment with her feature film debut Shiva Baby (also starring Rachel Sernott), she works through stereotypes in an extremely amusing way in Bottoms. Equality is established by the fact that, in the end, every character comes out as a human being full of flaws – from the unambitious teacher (Marshawn Lynch) to the adored pom-pom swinger (Havana Rose Liu) to the leading roles of the lecherous losers.
