After donning a suit of armor in The Mandalorian, Timothy Olyphant will be slipping into a different kind of artificial skin in the sci-fi series Alien for the popular franchise.
Since Sigourney Weaver first took on the drooling alien life form that jumps out of torsos as Ripley in 1979’s Alien, 44 years have passed and an entire sci-fi franchise has outgrown space horror. In addition to the Alien cinema reboot Romulus, the first Alien series awaits us soon. Timothy Olyphant has now been cast as a crucial new character
Timothy Olyphant will play an android in the Alien series
Timothy Olyphant is known to series fans as the Justified protagonist or as Star Wars character Cobb Vanth from The Mandalorian, but has also starred in films such as The Crazies and Snowden. He is already familiar with Alien series creator Noah Hawley from their collaboration on the 4th season of Fargo. As Variety reports, Timothy Olyphant will slip into the role of the android Kirsh for the sci-fi horror series Alien.
We know the “Synth” (synthetics) as crew members in the Alien franchise, for example through Ash (Ian Holm) in Alien 1 or David (Michael Fassbender) in Alien: Covenant. In the Alien series, Timothy Olyphant’s character is supposed to mentor the main character Wendy (Sydney Chandler) because she is a hybrid: a meta-human, with the brain and consciousness of a child, but with the body of an adult.
The other cast members of the ambitious alien series include Alex Lawther, Adarsh Gourav, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis and Kit Young. Ridley Scott, who directed the first Alien film, is on board as producer of the series. It is set 70 years in the future, but before Ripley’s story and on Earth.
When will Noah Hawley’s Alien series start in Germany?
Neither an international launch of the Alien series nor a German release date are currently known. In Germany, the FX series is expected to come to Disney+. Filming has been slowed down by the Hollywood strike and is not scheduled to resume until early 2024. It is therefore likely that the sci-fi adventure will not be released until the end of 2024 at the earliest.
