Game of Thrones favourite Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will soon be playing the legendary Norman king William the Conqueror in the series King and Conqueror, who shaped the fate of Great Britain for almost 1,000 years with the famous Battle of Hastings.

As quoted by the Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming BBC series is to revolve around antagonists William (Coster-Waldau) and Harold (James Norton), kings of Normandy and England who were forced “by circumstance and personal obsession” into a war for the crown of England that ended with the mighty Battle of Hastings in 1066.

King and Conqueror is the story of a conflict that shaped the future of a country and a continent for 1000 years, according to the official synopsis quoted. The screenplay was written by Sherlock Holmes author Michael Robert Johnson and the first episode is to be directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Everest).

But it will be a while before Game of Thrones fans can see Coster-Waldau with a sword in battle again. According to a Hollywood Reporter report, the series will not begin production until 2024. We therefore don’t expect it to be released until mid-2025 at the earliest.
