Somewhat under the radar this year was the action film Kandahar, which Gerard Butler fans in particular are likely to enjoy. The war film, which also features a thrilling espionage thriller, will soon be released in home cinemas

We know and love Gerard Butler as a likeable, tough hero whose films are full of action. This is also the case in his latest film Kandahar, which Butler also produced. Ric Roman Waugh, who worked with Butler for the third time, took the director’s chair and directed Kandahar with plenty of suspense

On December 1, Kandahar will finally be released for home cinema, including in a limited steelbook edition.

In addition to the Steelbook, Kandahar will be released on 4K + Blu-ray, on Blu-ray and on DVD and offers Behind the Scenes as bonus material. For all impatient fans, the film is already available to stream on Amazon Prime .

Kandahar: Action movie meets espionage thriller

The screenplay for the film was written by Mitchell LaFortune, who drew inspiration from his own life. The former military officer was himself stationed with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Afghanistan when whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed the workings of American intelligence agencies. The plot is reminiscent of an espionage thriller, which gives Kandahar more depth and suspense and thus distinguishes it somewhat from the classic representatives of its genre.

The chases through the desert in Kandahar are particularly spectacular. The scenes were shot in the Al-Ula region in Saudi Arabia, among other places, where a major American production has set up camp for the first time. The Arab country wants to become more modern and open and is increasingly focusing on expanding the film industry (via Deadline )
