You can now watch one of the most successful horror films of the year with a Netflix subscription. It’s the fifth installment in a popular series

The Insidious series was created in 2010 by Saw and Conjuring director James Wan. Since then, the horror franchise has already made five films. The latest installment, Insidious: The Red Door, can now be streamed on Netflix for the first time after its theatrical release in July 2023. It also comes with a new feature:

Horror trauma: This is what Insidious 5 is about

The plot of the fifth part takes place 10 years after the events of Insidious: Chapter 2. Josh’s (Patrick Wilson) and Renai’s (Rose Byrne) son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) is now at college, where he is soon haunted by demons from his childhood. Once again, the Lambert family must face the biggest trauma of their lives together.

At the box office, the Insidious franchise continues to be a financial hit. With a budget of 16 million dollars, the fifth installment grossed over 186 million dollars worldwide, according to The Numbers. This makes the horror sequel the third most successful film of the year in its genre. Only Five Nights at Freddy’s and The Nun II were more successful worldwide.

Patrick Wilson directs Insidious 5 for the first time (and sings!)

Since the first installment, Wilson has starred in almost every film in the Insidious series. For the fifth film, he also switched to the director’s chair for the first time and took over the direction. To top it all off, Wilson also sang the song that can be heard in the end credits of Insidious: The Red Door.
