Few people in Hollywood make science fiction films as reliably good as Alex Garland. Now his new work has been announced. We can expect great things
The Beach made Alex Garland famous as an author in the 1990s. He is now also a filmmaker, particularly in the science fiction genre. Garland has written films such as 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go and Dredd. He made an extremely impressive directorial debut in 2015 with Ex Machina.
Most recently, he turned our heads with films such as Extinction and Men, as well as the acclaimed series Devs, in which daring sci-fi ideas meet mysterious events. Now Garland dares to take another look into the future. And it’s a very unsettling one, as the first poster for the dystopian-inspired Civil War shows
Snipers on the Statue of Liberty: Sci-fi genius Alex Garland unleashes a civil war in the USA
Not too much is known about the plot of Civil War. As World of Reel reports, the name of the film says it all: the USA is on the brink of civil war. The poster makes it clear that the situation is serious. Two snipers have barricaded themselves behind sandbags on the torch of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Civil War doesn’t just have an exciting premise. The cast is also worth a look. It features names such as Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man), Wagner Moura (Narcos), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune), Sonoya Mizuno (House of the Dragon), Jojo T. Gibbs (Past Lives) and Karl Glusman (Love). They are joined by Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), who will also lead next year’s new Alien film (Alien: Romulus).
